Leading play specialists, Timberplay, have recently launched a new podcast, ‘Play Attention’, which seeks to further the conversation around play. Featuring in-depth conversations between independent play consultant, Beth Cooper and influential changemakers with a passion for play.
Available from www.timberplay.com/play-attention-podcast, Episode 1, features Eugene Minogue, Chief Executive of Play England, in a wide-ranging conversation exploring the long awaited push for a play strategy in England.
With the provision of high quality of play experiences at the heart of Timberplay’s work, Play Attention provides a dedicated forum for designers, thinkers practitioners to examine the current landscape of play, and how it can be strengthened through policy change and everyday action.
Hayley Ashby, Timberplay’s Content & Partner Strategist explains why the time was right for this new podcast.
“Throughout our work at Timberplay, we have the privilege of speaking with people from many different sectors who all share a genuine passion for play. These conversations are often deeply rewarding, reaffirming that play is a fundamental right for every child and reminding us why we work in such an essential area of placemaking. We know thousands of others share this enthusiasm, so we felt it was important to begin recording and gathering these insights. By doing so, we hope to help a community of like-minded people deepen our collective understanding, strengthen our commitment, and champion a culture of play in the places we live, work, and learn”
In the first episode, Eugene and Beth discuss how play can be embedded in planning and design, and what ‘play sufficiency duty’ could mean for every child’s freedom to play. Over the course of 43 minutes, they explore the practical steps adults, designers and communities can take to promote play provision, beyond traditional playground.
Simply search ‘Play Attention’ wherever you get your podcasts, and look out for Episode 2 dropping in December. Upcoming guests include Jenny Rutherford, Emma Bearman and Professor Helen Dodd, each bringing sharp insights and brilliant, engaging discussion.
