Cromarty community get active with Xerscape
Whoever says age is a barrier to exercise is talking rubbish! Lucky pensioners in the Black Isle community of Cromarty are certainly proof of that! Very senior locals can now be seen enjoying some excellent exercise on the Xerscape outdoor fitness units just installed by Wicksteed Playscapes.

This is all thanks to Anne Short, from the community council. Anne was inspired by the idea when she saw an item on TV featuring the very same Xerscape products on a new ‘grey ground’ installed this year in Blackley, Manchester– a first for England, too, so she set about arranging a similar area for Cromarty people. To kickstart proceedings Cromarty resident, Jean Newell celebrating her 100th birthday that day, no less - officially opened the fitness zone.
The very sprightly Mrs Newell was keen to try out the equipment for herself and is seen here “working” her arms on the Pull-down Exerciser. Supported by Highland Council, Talisman Energy and the Cromarty Trust, the project cost £15,000 to fund and will provide the perfect opportunity for local residents to strut their stuff and improve their overall fitness and health whilst taking the air!
