Market Deeping Town Council commissions cutting-edge play equipment

If you go down to Market Deeping play area today you’ll find a very different assortment of state-of-the-art play products in situ.  Commissioned by the Town Council and with a great deal of research and consultation from local schools and community having gone into the background work, two fantastic new areas have now emerged.

Sited on the edge of a large playing field, named after a local businessman, John Eve, who wanted to ensure that the people of the town would always have a place for outdoor recreation, the play area has become even more popular now with these latest additions.  A new BMX track is also in its early planning stages with completion due in September.

The ultra-impressive 4-tier Matrix agility system takes centre stage, allowing kids aged 5 upwards to clamber, cling, swing, slide and even rest awhile on its many platforms.  Uniquely, there’s a scarily high pole slider at one side of this intriguing unit and a more traditional slide at the other.  Once on the Matrix, the youngsters can scramble on a rope section, swing round the poles, slide down, climb up the sides or simply sit and survey all around them.

Town Clerk, Mandy Ford, who managed this project, which was led by the Amenities  and Open Spaces Committee Chairman, Councillor Bob Broughton, was keen to comment that: “The area was in a bad state of disrepair and was uninviting for children to use.  The Town Council decided that it needed to take immediate action.  With such a large expenditure at stake it was important the children were given what they really wanted and would use.  We visited them in schools, along with a representative from Wicksteed, and showed them a variety of equipment.  From their feedback we were able to provide an area that is now unbelievably popular.  It is fantastic to see the area literally swarming with happy children!”

Later on in the year some Xerscape equipment – also from Wicksteed Playscapes, is expected to be commissioned.

“We are still looking to develop the area further, to make sure the park offers something for all ages – from toddlers to our older residents” said Mandy.

This fitness range has been created to provide outdoor exercise for those in their teens and way beyond!  Wicksteed’s Matrix Agility System provides plenty of fun.

For the littler ones, the separate play area has now been transformed with a whole range of brand new equipment.  Complete with colourful, tactile play panels, toadstool seats, a Mystical World modular play system, swings and talking flowers – to name but a few - this part of Market Deeping is a haven for younger children to keep fit and agile whilst interacting and socialising.

The people of Market Deeping are already enjoying both dramatically improved sites, and it is expected that there will be a brilliant turnout for the grand opening on Thursday July 31st at which the Reverend Philip Brent will be blessing the play area.
