Wicksteed bring joy back to play area

Following public consultation, Leighton-Linslade Town Council elected Wicksteed Playscapes to carry out a major part of a £300k refurbishment of half the play areas in the town.

Parsons Close Play Area, the third of the three sites now completed, is the largest, most central and prestigious of the six areas in total which were in need of regeneration.

There was one distinct stipulation, however, before Wicksteed could begin the work on this site - one particular piece of equipment must not be removed ~ the Joy Wheel.

For one person involved in the project - John Connew, Operations Park Manager, it was important that this roundabout remained.  As a lad, some 35 years ago, John played on this very product and has fond memories of whizzing round on the Joy Wheel. So, he was determined it should to be refurbished rather than removed.

Wicksteed Playscapes was only too keen to accommodate John’s request and luckily has it within its power to bring a new lease of life to this cherished piece.  What testament, though, to the longevity of Wicksteed’s equipment ~ a bit of tlc and the Joy Wheel was back to its former glory!

The Mayor of Leighton-Linslade, Councillor Adam Kahn, had the honour of officially opening the site and is seen trying out the Joy Wheel, aided by his Deputy, Councillor George Rolfe and Councillor Brian Sadler, leader of the council.  Alongside them are Dan Orpin and David Owen from Wicksteed Playscapes.

Thanks to funds from a government loan, the rejuvenated Joy Wheel proudly spins in Parson Close Play Area and even boasts a special brass plaque to commemorate just how revered it is!
