Wash cycle helps recycle
The eco-cycle on your washing machine won’t be the only
contribution it makes to saving the environment thanks to a new
spin on recycling from a leading manufacturer of playground
equipment.
Wicksteed Playscapes has developed an ingenious method to re-use
rubber door seals from old washing machines – by
incorporating them into the special surfaces that keep kids safe at
playgrounds.

Playground surfaces are as important to child safety as the
equipment itself and Wicksteed has always led the way in ensuring
its users are as protected as possible. Its new Playscape surfacing
system – called ECO-FLECK – is mixed and laid on site
and is strong enough to resist pounding feet, yet slip resistant
and non-abrasive to young knees and elbows.
The company has always experimented to make its products as
green as possible and recycled tyres have been used in various
surfacing for years – but the new surfacing, takes
Wicksteed’s commitment to the environment one step
further.
Phil Holden of Wicksteed said: “We’re hoping this
idea will revolutionise the way people look at seemingly
straightforward things like playground surfacing. It shows that you
can find a greener way of doing just about anything. As an
added bonus, while it’s more environmentally friendly,
ECO-FLECK is no more expensive to the customer, and the little
white specks of rubber seal mixed in with the black surface
material creates what we think is a very attractive, sparkly
appearance to the playground.”
