“We are delighted to have received this award.  We are committed to ensuring sound environmental practice.  We fully consider the environmental impact of everything we do, from the material we choose when designing new products to the disposal of waste.

“In recent years we have introduced a number of initiatives that aim to protect the local environment for future generations and will continue to strive for new and innovative solutions to move towards a sustainable future.”

Sutcliffe Play’s second award win is The Business and the Environment Award at the first Wakefield District Business Awards.

Dave Brady, Sutcliffe Play’s Design Director comments:

''I was delighted to accept the award on behalf of all the employees at Sutcliffe Play.  Firstly, I congratulate Wakefield First for including an environmentally responsible category to its annual awards which can only help to raise awareness throughout the Wakefield business community.

“We all know that concern for the environment is going to move up the business agenda in the coming years and it is vital that organisations such as Wakefield first provide a platform where good practice in this area can be communicated throughout the district and beyond.

“It is an honour for Sutcliffe Play to be recognised by this award and it allows us to reflect on how much we have achieved.  A company embarking on a programme of reducing its negative impacts on the environment has to take very small steps.  Fixing a can crusher to the canteen wall, or ensuring all employees turn the toilet light off can seem insignificant, but when many such initiatives are added together a real difference is made.

“We hope by winning this award we can encourage others to start taking those same small steps.''
