The Grove Independent School - Loughton
This project was self funded by The Grove Independent School. Our in-house designers we were asked to produce an outdoor educational area without a strict brief; this allowed us the creative freedom whilst responding to feedback from our customer.The Grove Independent School was very interested in the Spielart ‘Erna the snail’, a marble run piece from our timber range. Sadly the standard design was a little too small for this project. The Grove then decided to create their own Loch Ness monster design, and the results were amazing. Spielart craftsmen manufactured the piece to their exact specification and it now takes pride of place within play area.

Kirkhamgate Primary School
The transformation of this tired and uninviting Primary School play area was immense as the old dilapidated timber play equipment and obsolete tarmac surface were replaced with a vibrant, beautifully designed play area. Primary Spaces: Beetham C of E Primary School, Milnthorpe
Whilst having been successfully appointed as the playground contractor to deliver this outdoor playground scheme, a major part of the programme was to work closely with the school to redesign the project to fit in with their own site issues.  Beetham CofE is in an area of outstanding natural beauty and as such, has stringent planning requirements to adhere to.The highlight of the new play area design was the refurbishment of the existing poor quality tarmac play area.  An extensive area of new Flexiplay wetpour safety surfacing was laid to cover all the old, poor tarmac in bright colours, following the design brief from Sport England.

Bubbles and splashes in the forest school garden!
Whitefield School, in Nelson, have a fantastic Forest School programme and really wanted to enhance the opportunities this brings by creating a forest stream.
You won’t find any equipment here, it’s all natural products (apart from a bit of concrete for the stream base). Utilizing a grassy bank we created a bubbling waterfall with splash pools and a recirculating pump.

From Natural Bark to JungleMulch 
During the summer holidays, we were asked to complete a JungleMulch makeover on part of the outdoor play space at an academy school.The existing area was attractive and used frequently by the children, but had varying ground levels and was mainly surfaced in natural bark chippings. We’re often approached by educational facilities using bark chippings to suggest an alternative natural looking surface, as the areas require high maintenance and it can be costly to keep topping up material.

Ysgol-Y-Gogarth – Inclusive Play Areas
Ysgol-y-Gogarth is a day and residential Special School in Llandudno, which caters for approximately 180 pupils between the ages of 3 and 19. They cater for more than 50 pupils with Autism or who have been diagnosed with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). As part of an £18m redevelopment at the school, Hand Made Places were asked to create inclusive play areas around the school to cater for children of all abilities and ages. The play spaces focused on basic needs such as balance, co-ordination and upper body strength.

Barrowcliff Primary School
This project was procured through a tender process with a design brief provided by the client.  The play area design was to include climbing activities and role play items for the nursery and reception area.  The KS1 area was to be a natural progression from the nursery play area and required more challenging climbing equipment. Pennine’s design team included a low level timber multi activity unit for the Nursery/Reception area comprising of a slide, linking bridge and platforms, firemans pole and climbing activities. The multi unit was installed into an area of existing wetpour safety surfacing to save costs, with each area that was disturbed by the installation receiving a coloured wetpour graphic splash. A Timber Forest House was also included within this play area for imaginative, role play and den making activities.

Playground Surfacing At Rigby Hall School
RTC Safety Surfaces recently installed over 900m² of wet pour safety surfacing at Rigby Hall School in Worcestershire. The surfacing included multiple graphics such as a river, roundabouts, and roadways; as well as phrases such as ‘Mutual Respect’ that reflected the school's key values. The project was completed in twelve days, by one of RTC’s twelve installation teams – all of whom are trained in-house.
