40 years of Playground fun
In 2008 playground equipment
manufacturer Record RSS celebrate their 40th birthday
Public playgrounds have been around
since the Victorian era, but times have changed. Local playground
equipment designer and manufacturer Record RSS are showing that
they have changed with the times, and are as enthusiastic about
play as ever.

How times have changed – the newest Record RSS item,
RidgeRider
Mr Arthur Record started the Selby
based business in January 1968 after seeing a climbing frame in a
park and thinking ‘I could make one of those’. He
started off with some basic equipment, the first being the Monkey
House – a multi user climbing house. He soon moved on to
include swings, the spacecraft roundabout and the Gullwing See-saw
– which is still popular today. One of the most exciting
products in the range was the Helter Skelter which due to new
safety standards, is no longer in the product portfolio.

The Monkey House
At the beginning Record only employed
two people in the office, but the business soon thrived and
expanded, and in 1994 moved to a new larger site – it’s
current location. In January 2006 Record Playground equipment
merged with Staines based RSS Playmakers, and now employs around 70
people.
Record RSS plan to celebrate their 40th
birthday all year – watch this space.
