Padstow lies in the heart of Cornwall and remains a key tourist destination within the UK. Renowned for its ancient fishing port, Padstow Town Council are proud of their local heritage. They wanted to refurbish existing play equipment with a whole new area. They had a budget of £50,000 which was raised internally to spend on updating old and tired equipment.
Part of the existing play area had been closed for 6 months,
heightening the importance of installing a new one. Many parents
felt they were missing out without adequate facilities in place and
desperately wanted a new area to take their children to.
Having met the Nottingham based play equipment provider Proludic at
a SLCC (Society of Local Council Clerks) event, they were keen to
discuss possibilities on how they could improve the site.
After visiting the town council to offer advice and guidance, it
was decided that Proludic were the preferred choice to manage the
project, from the initial design stages right through to the
installation.
The Play Area design by Proludic was presented to parents and
children at a consultation meeting to ensure all their needs were
being catered for. Everyone agreed that the theme and equipment
proposed by Proludic was modern, versatile and exciting.
The Proludic design team and Area Sales Representative had put
together a nautical themed area, which complimented the local
history perfectly. Seven key pieces of equipment were chosen, each
one further enhancing the imaginary and adventurous world of the
sea.

This theme was cleverly carried through in the safety surfacing
area design. Brightly coloured graphics featuring anchors, crabs,
fish and other sea creatures have been used to enhance the play
experience. This enables children to explore their imaginations,
and be transformed into pirates, sea captains and nautical
explorers.
The use of a Tanker Boat with multiple play activities forms the
main focal point of the whole scheme. The boat belongs to the brand
new Fleet range from Proludic and features climbing, sliding and
crawling elements above and below deck.
