Playground gets an innovative makeover from Playworld

As part of Reigate and Banstead Borough Council’s ongoing redevelopment of its play areas, Playworld Systems Europe has been specified to give an imaginative makeover to playgrounds at Petridgewood Common and Nork Park.

Commenting on the projects, Parks Improvements Officer Peter Jones said, “At Reigate and Banstead we are undertaking a rolling programme of improvements to play areas.  For these two sites, we were looking for a range of play activities to engage children up to the age of 12.  We opened the tender to several playground manufacturers, with our most important requirement being play value and the quality of the equipment.”

As part of Reigate and Banstead Borough Council’s ongoing redevelopment of its play areas, Playworld Systems Europe has been specified to give an imaginative makeover to playgrounds at Petridgewood Common and Nork Park.

On awarding the contract to Playworld, Peter Jones continued, “Playworld provided a creative and inventive solution, investing time to work with us as part of the design process.  We were particularly impressed with Playworld’s ability to modify the design in line with our requirements, and the company was very accommodating in devising a scheme for the Petridgewood Common site where there is limited space.”

One important requirement was the need to provide access for all children, including those of reduced mobility.  Reigate and Banstead Borough Council is committed to providing equal access in playground facilities to all residents.  In line with this pledge, Playworld provided a selection of Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) approved equipment for the two sites.

The council is delighted with the end result, with Petridgewood Common reopening at the end of July and Nork Park reopening in early September.  Peter Jones said, “The two sites have been very well received by the local children and their parents.  The new play areas provide a totally new play experience for children and they have been very busy ever since the reopening.  All in all the projects have been a great success!”
