Notts Sport 'Brightons up the play' with money-saving refurbishment advice
Existing sports grounds can be given a new lease of life by
Notts Sport – and recycling the old is all part of the
company’s philosophy of giving its clients a great value for
money service.
One such example can be seen at Hove Park in Brighton, where the
leading synthetic surfacing supplier was able to provide expert
advice on refurbishing five tennis courts that had endured years of
play.

Following a detailed inspection of the original surface
installed some 16 years earlier, Brighton & Hove City Council
was advised that the most cost-effective solution wasn’t to
be found in replacing the entire system.
Instead Notts Sport’s distributor, S & C Slatter,
carried out minor re-leveling work to the underlying ground,
re-used the original shockpad layer which was showing little sign
of wear, and replaced the top carpet with a new VHAF NottsSward TS
surface.
Shaun Patrick, Chief Executive of Notts Sport, explains:
“The VHAF NottsSward TS tennis surface is different from
other sand-filled artificial turf because the unique random
structure of the fibres stabilises the sand and makes it less
likely to compact.
“In turn, this helps to protect the entire system right
through to ground level, and although the top carpet needed
replacing, we were able to advise the council that spending money
on a complete surface system wasn’t necessary – the
shockpad layer has many more years of life left in it.
“We are happy to help our clients save money when we can,
because we believe building our reputation as providers of the best
service is far more important than short-term income gain.

“The fact that the original Sand Envelope System had
lasted so many years is also testament to our system’s
durability.”
Notts Sports’ artificial turf courts need minimal
maintenance and offer exceptional drainage qualities. Players are
provided with outstanding impact absorption, better grip and
consistent bounce levels, and Notts Sports surfaces are classified
by the International Tennis Federation as medium speed.
VHAF NottsSward TS is available in a palette of 15 colours
– including grass green and terracotta.
