Melcourt launches new guide to Nature Play Surface Solutions
Melcourt Launches new Guide to Natural Play Surface Solutions – and claims massive savings over wet pour rubber and tiles.
Melcourt Industries has a new Guide to natural play surface solutions aimed at play professionals, landscapers and community groups.

The all-new step by step guide takes a close look at the latest European Standards revision of BSEN1176 and BSEN1177 and at the all-important choice between artificial play surfaces and natural ones like Melcourt Playbark® and Playchips® - from the point of view of play experience, child safety, and cost.
There is little doubt now in play provision circles that LIAS made from natural materials more than match solid surfaces in terms of safety whilst offering a considerably richer play experience. For community groups the installation and maintenance of natural play surfaces – often undertaken by volunteers – is much easier.
Cost is a real driver in play provision, so how do Melcourt products compare?
We didn’t set out to prove that any type of play surface was cheaper than another but having asked an independent play expert to examine the issue we found that Melcourt products offered massive savings over wet pour rubber and tiles, and significant savings over grass tiles. These savings applied at time of installation and over the life of the product. Crucially, wet pour rubber, tiles, and grass tiles had end-of-life landfill costs of £4000 whilst all Melcourt products can be composted for no cost.
Andy Chalmers, Melcourt Industries Ltd Sales & Marketing Director says ‘We spent a long time, putting this brochure together. We believe that this is the first time ever that whole life cycle costings have been calculated for play surfaces. The results make extremely interesting and informative reading.’
