The plaque was presented by The Green Organisation at the annual international awards ceremony at the House of Commons on Monday (November 10).   The National Green Plaque Awards are presented annually in recognition of companies, councils and communities carrying out projects that enhance the built environment and have their project included in the National Treasures guide.

The judges commented: “This play area although primarily for recreation has been themed around rural living in the dark ages. The castle structures and layout give young minds a view of earlier civilisations living in harmony with their surroundings. The play design and equipment eibe have provided is a perfect example of Natural Landscape Play Design”

The award-winning project is featured in the current National Treasures guide after winning a Green Apple Built Environment Award at The Tower of London earlier this year.

The Green Apple Awards for the Built Environment and Architectural Heritage campaign is run by The Green Organisation, an independent, non-political, non-profit organisation that recognises, rewards and promotes environmental best practice around the world.    Their supporters include SAVE Britain’s Heritage, the Environment Agency, the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and various other professional bodies.

Campaign Manager Mark Wolens commented:  “Building projects generally are struggling at the moment, but this project shows how careful development is planning for the future generations of children and young people .   “To then go further and become Green Plaque winners is an even bolder statement of intent, and organisations that go the extra mile demonstrate a serious commitment to the world around them. They invest in a better future for us all and deserve to be recognised for their efforts.”

Eibeplay Managing Director Paul Redden commented “We are extremely proud of this award. Our landscape and Playscape design team see this Play Area as proof that eibe play are leading contenders to deliver the governments objectives for open space. We see this Play Scheme as a perfect example of a Pathfinder or Playbuilder set out in the latest DCSF Play Design objectives."
