Playbuilder project changes play in local village
Harpole have recently had their run down village play area transformed using Playbuilder funding. “Following extensive public consultation and supplier selection process, Miracle Design and Play were selected to work with us on the Harpole Playground Project. The company’s design proposals demonstrate great creativity and their scheme stood out at a very early stage in our selection process”.

The unusually narrow site initially raised concerns due to the proximity to the football pitch, however Miracle researched the recommendations and consulted with safety professionals to ensure the site was a safe distance from the touch line, allowing the project to get started. The unusual linear shape called for a unique design to reach the site’s full potential.
The site posed various challenges from the drainage of part of the site being very poor, to
the site being very narrow. To overcome these, the design incorporated a land drain to make the bottom of the site usable and a bespoke multi-unit to fit the space available and still provide a fun and challenging play opportunity. The layout design was based around a play journey through the site, using landscaping features and planting to informally direct the flow through and zone the new play area. As the site was a community focal point, planted mounds and timber sleeper walls were used to create seating and social areas for parents.
The design from its conception was a partnership between the community and Miracle combining local and industry knowledge, which has led to a fantastic addition to the local community.
