CBBC - Newsround asks "What's your playground like?"

What's your local playground like? Does it have fantastic swings and slides - or is it manky and in need of a makeover?

Children's BBC programme Newsround is asking children to forward their thoughts to the programme with direct reference to the government putting the current capital funding on hold.

£75m of capital funding was the final tranche of the £235m dedicated to building and refurbishing 3,500 playgrounds across England as part of the previous government's Play Stategy.

The API believes that the whole play programme will have had an impact on about 15% of playgrounds in the UK, leaving the significant majority untouched.

The API in it role as a trade association represents the interests of its Members and their trade sector.  Providing sustainable, accessible, challenging and maintaining play spaces for our children provides long lasting positive benefits for community development, children's long term health and development.

While cutbacks and economies are undeniably essential the API calls for the new coalition government to consider the overwhelming recognition of the benefits of play for children and local communities.  For any government relatively small investments can make a huge difference to our communities and children.
