API Member - eibe Play scoops International Green Apple 2008 award
eibe Play Is one of the major prize-winners in the International
Green Apple Awards 2008 for the Built Environment and Architectural
Heritage.
eibe play have been given the regional Silver Award for their
project at The Lookout Discovery Centre.
The trophy was presented by top botanist and TV personality
Professor David Bellamy, OBE at The Tower of London to Paul Redden
Managing Director of eibe Play.
The trophies are awarded annually in recognition of building
projects that enhance the built environment and/or protect our
architectural heritage.
The judges commented: “This play area although
primarily for recreation has been themed around rural living in the
dark ages. The castle structures and layout give young minds a view
of earlier civilisations living in harmony with their
surroundings.”
The award-winning project will be featured in the next National
Treasures guide and they will also be presented with a prestigious
Green Plaque later in the year, during a special prize giving
ceremony at the House of Commons.
The Green Apple Awards campaign is run by The Green
Organisation, an independent, non-political, non-profit
organisation that recognises, rewards and promotes environmental
best practice around the world.
Their supporters include the Environment Agency, the Chartered
Institution of Wastes Management, the Chartered Institute of
Environmental Health and various other professional bodies.
National Organiser Roger Wolens commented: “We
had hundreds nominations this year, so eibe play did particularly
well to triumph against some very strong
competition.”
Paul Redden Managing Director of eibe play also commented
"The team here are really excited about this award as we have
strived to create Natural Playspaces with good themed ideas and
structures for some years. This award is a reward of that ethos we
have taken into our design of play equipment and public play
spaces. David Bellamy is someone I have watched and respected since
I was a child and to be handed this award by the man himself was
fantastic"
