Playworld Facelift for Malvern Play Area
The under-used play area in the middle of the Brookfarm Drive
housing estate was in need of a refurbishment to modernise it to
today’s standards to attract more children to use it.
Malvern Town Council invited five children’s play equipment
companies to come up with a solution based on a £50,000
budget. The council’s only requirements were that the
solution had to be suitable for children up to the age of 12 and
that it had to meet all safety standards. Other than that,
the brief was left open to allow for creativity.
“Playworld Systems won the project because its tender and
solution simply outstripped the others”, explained Malvern
Town Council’s Operations Manager Charles Porter. He
added, “ Our confidence to go with them was also underlined
by the previous work they have done for us on a skate park in the
area, where Playworld’s Woodward ramps have really impressed
the skating community.”
The playground design consists of Playworld’s DDA activity
panels, Pikes Peak Climbing rail, Monorail, LoopyWhoop rotating
unit and Challenge climbing unit and slides. It also has a
large single slide, a chin bar, roundabout and Lilly Pods, FlipFLop
and a double seesaw to complement the existing swings.
As well as designing, manufacturing and installing the equipment,
the company is also carrying out free annual safety inspections in
addition to the council’s own inspections.
Playworld’s project manager Johan Esterhuizen said,
“The playground is designed to promote health and fitness
through the medium of fun.” Mr Porter adds, “We
were extremely impressed by the company’s management of the
project. The play area has had an excellent reception from the
local children and parents and provides a solution that will last
in terms of quality and entertainment for years to come.”
