Exciting New Concept Brings Electronic Games Outdoors

Making its debut at Saltex in early September will be Neos, an exciting new product from Playworld Systems, which brings electronic gaming to the outdoor play space.

Neos’ innovative design comprises four columns with interactive sounds and light buttons, and an electronic score board in the centre.  The buttons light up in random sequence depending on game selection and provide an exhilarating new way to play outdoors.  With nine different games and three skill levels to choose from, one or more players can have their scores recorded making Neos competitive and challenging whilst improving agility, balance, fitness and social skills.

Jerry Widdas, managing director of Playworld Systems Europe commented, “Neos is a brand new concept to hit the outdoor play market and we are sure that this innovation will cause widespread interest both with local authorities and developers at this year’s Saltex.”  He continued, “ Neos is an example of pure innovation backed up with active focus group research to bring the product to market.”

The Neos system can operate from either a low voltage power supply or a post-mounted solar panel.

At the launch of Neos at Saltex, exhibition visitors will be free to try out the new gaming concept and each day prizes will be awarded for the highest game scores on that day.

“The development of the Neos game followed our desire to provide a new direction in outdoor play,” said Jerry.  “ With the popularity of indoor electronic games, such as Dance Dance Revolution™, we wanted to create a product with the same conceptual technology, but one which brings family and the community outdoors to the park and play spaces where they can actively have fun together.”

A frequent complaint among parents today is the inability to get their children, from toddlers to teens, off the sofa and away from indoor electronic or online games.  As childhood obesity is on the rise, parents are looking for alternative ways to simultaneously encourage activity and teach lifelong skills.

“Not only can Neos be an incredibly energetic game that can leave your heart pumping, it also promotes social interaction, achievement, teamwork and healthy competition” added Paul Clarkson, operations director of Playworld Systems Europe.

While Neos is designed for games of one or two players, teams of four or eight players with varying abilities can be formed.  In addition, the size and design of Neos allow for creativity in how the games are played.

“When we first tested the game at schools, we found that children were sometimes teaming up in groups of four or six players to try and achieve higher scores,” commented Paul.  “The social aspect of the game is tremendous.”
