THE extra fun and games inspired by a new timber trail at a Birmingham school has had a positive impact on the whole of school life.
Brookvale Primary School, Erdington, prides itself on making enjoyment a key part of learning and is always looking for innovative ways to achieve this.
After a number of fund-raising activities organised by governors, staff, parents and Friends of Brookvale, the school turned to the premier provider of school playground equipment, Wiltshire-based Playforce, to help create a new and exciting playground activity.
The end result was a trim trail made up of a number of physical challenges - including rope bridges, balance beams and stepping posts to exercise both the minds and bodies of the youngsters.
“It’s fantastic! The children love it and have really enjoyed mastering some of the more complex obstacles,” said head teacher Jonathan Smart. “They use it backwards, forwards and have found some extremely interesting way of tackling the swinging logs. Outside space is at a premium here and this trim trail has made a big difference, especially to the children’s behaviour during play times.
“We were also very keen to encourage role play and imaginative games and the trim trail has managed to achieve that as well.”
Playforce prides itself on the ability to design play areas that stimulate children’s imaginations at the same time as stretching their muscles. The children create their own games and magical worlds using the Playforce obstacles as props and scenery.
Mr Smart explained that Brookvale is currently working towards achieving Healthy Schools Status and the new trim trail is a big step in the right direction.
“This play equipment has fulfilled so many needs at the school. Playforce was definitely the right choice. The staff were excellent; professional, accommodating and the equipment we have is of such a high standard, we are delighted.”
