Playdale Goes Green

Environmental issues are becoming an increasing concern and here at Playdale we are committed to reducing the impact on the environment through each and every one of our business activities. All of our environmental systems are independently audited by the British Standards Institute and we are registered to ISO 14001. This standard is an international standard that specifies a process for controlling and improving our environmental performance. Retaining this standard is very important to us as it demonstrates our commitment to the environment and helps to improve our overall performance and efficiency.

Playdale is committed to making the right purchase decisions by insisting that all of our suppliers undergo environmental assessment to ensure that their products are in line with our environmental policy. All of our timber products come from totally sustainable forests accredited by the Forest Stewardship Council.  Our paint is lead-free and plastic use is kept to a minimum all contributing to a more positive effect on the environment.

We are also concerned with environmental matters in our offices and strive to encourage all staff to recycle paper and cans. Last year we recycled 18.4 tonnes of paper, card and plastic thereby saving the destruction of 316 trees and protecting the natural habitat of our wildlife. We have also reduced our energy consumption by 45% and water use by 25%. This is a fantastic achievement and one we are very proud of.

Health and Safety and Quality Assurance Manager, Michelle Barrett commented that “Here at Playdale we consistently review our practices to ensure that we are in line with our environmental policy. This policy is a priority and Playdale staff are all educated to be aware of their impact on the environment”

Substances we all emit into the air can affect the health of plants, animals and people, and can contribute to global warming. Under a new initiative, we recently put all of our van drivers through a safe and fuel efficient driving course where some drivers achieved an increase of fuel efficiency by 25%.

Playdale’s new and exciting i.play system is a unique and revolutionary children’s play product, which is aimed at combating childhood obesity through stealth fitness. One of the most unique aspects of this product is that it is electronic and to remain ‘green’ i.play is powered by solar power, an environmentally friendly and efficient source of power.
