Marwell Zoo’s new Encounter Village features new play areas and family friendly safer surfacing
Playgrounds (UK) Limited built two new play areas for Marwell
Zoo’s new Encounter Village and Australian Biome and laid its
PLAYfall™ wetpour with aboriginal themed graphics throughout
the Village. The styles of the play areas and choice of
equipment were designed to complement the hands-on natural look of
the new feature. The use of wetpour safer surfacing in such a
major visitor attraction was a visionary step by the Zoo’s
management. It makes the Encounter Village more child and
family friendly, and the themed graphics enhance both the
aesthetics and the educational value of the experience.
Playgrounds (UK) Limited worked with Marwell Zoo’s management
throughout the planning of the Encounter Village to ensure that the
project could be delivered to the Zoo’s tight deadlines.
Playgrounds (UK) Limited is a Hampshire-based family owned
business specialising in laying impact absorbing safer surfacing in
children’s play areas. Where required, as with Marwell
Zoo, the company provides a complete playground installation
service.
PLAYfall™ wetpour is a resin bonded rubber crumb impact
absorbing safer surface specifically tested for use in
children’s play areas according to the requirements of BS
EN:1177. PLAYfall™ is designed and formulated to
minimise the risk of head injuries when children (or adults) fall
from a height. When PLAYfall™ is used in general areas,
as at Marwell Zoo, its slightly soft feel provides rest for
visitors’ (possibly) weary feet. It proved also to be a
cost-effective solution to refurbishing existing uneven concrete
walkways.
