Start of Construction - Withy Grove Park Play Area, Bamber Bridge

Withy Grove Park in Bamber Bridge is about to undergo a major transformation. With a £500,000 investment from South Ribble Council an open green space adjacent to the Leisure Centre will be transformed into one of the largest play areas in the North West.

The aim to create a stimulating and exhilarating environment for children of all ages will finally be realised when works are completed in early spring 2007.

The play area has a number of zones and includes a variety of safety surfaces, changes in levels and planting. “The idea was to create a play experience which was like an adventure – you do not know what is around the next corner and it is full of surprises!” says Michael Hoenigmann, Managing Director of Proludic Ltd. “We are delighted to have been chosen to deliver such a high profile project for the community of Bamber Bridge. We have worked extremely hard to meet the client’s brief whilst using our design flair and expertise to produce what we believe will be one of the UK’s premier play areas.

The funding for the project, which forms the first phase of improvement to the whole park, comes largely from section 106 agreements arising from local housing developments.   Further funding has been donated to the project by Rock FM’s Help a Local Child Charity to increase the range of inclusive equipment offered in the playground and Lancashire County Council’s Youth and Community Service has committed funding to increase the size of the skate area in the Teen Dynamic Challenge zone.

Councillor Matthew Tomlinson, cabinet member with responsibility for   finance and resources, said “the standard of playground designs are always very high and it often takes a long time to choose between them and select our preferred scheme.  The design submitted by Proludic was unanimously agreed by the Project team to be the best use of space with the widest range of equipment and the most exciting design concept.  The team were all impressed by the thought that had obviously been put in to the design of each area to produce a number of distinct themed zones”.

The contract is expected to run for 28 weeks with the play area being completed by the end of May 2007.
